Baltimore Orioles beat Toronto Blue Jays 8-5 at Camden Yards – MLB news
Baltimore Orioles beat the Toronto Blue Jays 8-5 on Friday, July 12, 2013 at the Camden Yards as all three of their All-Star starters went deep. The win allowed the birds to snap their four-game losing streak against the Blue Jays.
Chris Tillman recorded his 11th win of the season allowing eight hits and three runs over the course of six innings. He was hit for two home-runs during the course of the game.
Chris had some kind words for the batters in the O’s lineup who scored the eight runs courtesy of three long balls. He said that they swung well throughout the season and it has been fun to watch.
“They've been swinging the bats well all year,” Tillman said. “You got to give them credit. These guys go up there grinding every at-bat. And it's fun to watch.”
Blue Jays got on the scoreboard first in the top of the second innings courtesy of J.P. Arencibia’s two-run homer. Chris Davis brought the birds on level terms with his Major League leading 35th home-run. It was a two-run shot.
Adam Jones went deep with two bases loaded in the bottom of the third. J.J. Hardy scored his 16th home-run of the season with two bases loaded, taking the Orioles’ score to eight. Jim Johnson recorded his 32nd save of the season despite giving away two runs
in the ninth innings.
Chris Davis was happy to see the team winning and wants the momentum to continue as they move towards the All-Star break.
“It's huge to get the win tonight with two [upcoming] day games back-to-back,” Davis said. “Especially coming off that series with Texas, we want to keep the momentum going into the All-Star break.”
Manager Buck Showalter was pretty clear that there are teams ahead of the Orioles and he is not content at the moment. The team needs to meet its goals.
“Happy? That gives a connotation of satisfied,” Showalter said. “I think satisfaction, happiness means you're content, and as long as there are people ahead of us and what we're trying to accomplish, I don't think anybody's content with it.”
The birds have now won three consecutive games and look well set to enter the All-Star break on a positive note. They will need to continue the good work afterwards to ensure a post-season berth.
