Baltimore Orioles beaten by Tampa Bay Rays 3-5 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles were beaten by the Tampa Bay Rays 3-5 at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida on Monday, October 1 in the opening game of their three match series.
Starting pitcher Wei Yin Chen also had a tough time on the mound as he gave up six hits and four runs in six plus innings to take his 11th loss of the season. Surely, he will be looking to learn from his mistakes to bring consistency in his game
play.
Relief pitchers Luis Ayala, Pedro Strop and Troy Patton combined to pitch tremendously but Rays held on to get over the finish line.
Tampa Bay’s starter Alex Cobb gave up just two hits and one run in seven solid innings to claim his 11th win of the season. Ben Zobrist homered to left in the fourth inning to put Rays on the board. Ben Francisco, Carlos Gimenez and Carlos Pena
also drove in vital runs to help Rays secure a much needed win.
"I'll find out tomorrow morning," said Maddon, who then was asked if he expected to sleep well. "Absolutely. Like a baby."
"We didn't take care of our business. We lost," Adam Jones said in a post game interview. "When it comes to the Yankees, we can't control them. We can't control if they win or lose."
"Honestly, it just is what it is. We had opportunities early in the year to win more games, and we did not. But so did everybody else," Maddon said at the end of the contest.
Orioles’ Manager Buck Showalter will be disappointed with the outcome of the game. Orioles had several opportunities to put up a decent score on the board but they were unable to make the most of them. Matt Wieters homered to left in the seventh inning to
level the score 1-1.
Chris Davis smacked a two run home-run to right in the bottom of the ninth. However, apart from Davis and Wieters, none of Orioles’ hitters could live up to the expectations and the Rays held on to their lead comfortably to take a crucial 1-0 series lead.
