Baltimore Orioles considering Brian Roberts’ spasm problem in spring training schedule
The Baltimore Orioles need to decide how to deal with Brian Roberts’ back spasms problem as the player is currently taking time out in the club’s training complex in Sarasota, Florida. The second baseman is working out at the training complex and is looking
at a good role in the coming days when he regains fitness. Manager Buck Showalter isn’t ruling the athlete out of the squad card for Friday’s game at the home camp.
“Robbie hit, he was on the field today, so that's good,” Showalter said. “We will see how everything is [health-wise] tomorrow. He's not going to Kissimmee [Saturday].”
Back Spasms have brought Roberts to an unfamiliar situation where he can do nothing more than just wait to let the pain recede hope for better days. The player has been out of the mix since Tuesday. The issue concerning the spasms were present before the
Monday game against the New York Yankees, but the situation has gotten a bit out of hand since. The player said that the problem had not been exacerbated by the dive he made on first base during the game. However, he didn’t know anything for sure.
“I never really said anything because I wanted to keep playing,” Roberts said. “When I get them, they usually come on and then they go away on their own after a couple days. I probably didn't help things by sliding when I already had back spasms, but that
wasn't the cause of them.”
Roberts told the press that there was nothing to be concerned about as he’d been through the situation before. The problem had been there even before he had suffered of a herniated disk that limited his appearances to 59 during the Major League Baseball
season.
In other news, Cesar Izturis has been moved to a schedule on Friday for the regular game as his ankle problem is taking up much of the attention. Showalter told the press that if the regular season was underway, the utility infielder would have made his
way to the field on Thursday.
