Baltimore Orioles crush Boston Red Sox 9-6 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles crushed Boston Red Sox 9-6 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Sunday, May 6 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. With their win over the Red Sox, Baltimore secured a rare series sweep against Boston at Fenway Park.
To their credit, the Red Sox put up a brilliant fight in a game that was played on an extremely competitive note. After allowing the Orioles to get off to a dream start, they fought back strongly in the fifth to level the score at 5-5.
Mark Reynolds and Adam Jones combined in the eighth to give 6-5 lead to the Orioles but Jarrod Saltalamacchia levelled the score 6-6 in the same inning with a sacrifice fly to the left. Adam Jones broke Red Sox’s hearts in the 17th inning with a three run home run and J.J.  Hardy and Nick Markakis scored.
"I was like 'Sweet! I get to try something different today -- because hitting ain't working,'" Designated hitter Chris Davis said.
"I was just out there trying to throw strikes and not blow the game," Davis said. "In a game like that when everybody's battling, trying to get a win, both teams are throwing everything they got at each other."
"He had pretty good stuff. He had a lot of life on his balls," McDonald said. "I don't know what was worse -- giving up the three-run home run or grounding into a double play to end the game."
The Orioles made the most of available opportunities throughout the series to put immense pressure on their rivals. Showing great composure and executing their game plan to perfection, Buck Showalter and his company earned a handsome 6-4 win in the opening game.
Dominating Boston in almost all areas of the game, the Orioles won comprehensively 8-2 in the second game to take a decisive 2-0 lead. Getting the better of the Red Sox in the final game, the Orioles will be feeling very confident about their game play going into the next series with Texas Rangers.
