Baltimore Orioles crush Minnesota Twins 4-2 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles crush Minnesota Twins 4-2 at the Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday, April 6 in their regular season encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
The Orioles will be very pleased to start their regular season campaign on a positive note. Buck Showalter and his men looked completely out of sort last season so they will be hoping to restore some of the lost pride with consistent performances this season. While securing the World Series title may not be easy for the Orioles, they can certainly make themselves proud by reaching the post season.
Twins, on the other hand, will be a bit disappointed with the outcome of their opening game. They had a forgettable time in the last quarter of the 2012 Spring Training Session. It will be interesting to see if the Twins can bounce back in their next MLB game.
For the Orioles, Jake Arrieta put up a purposeful show to help his team take complete control over the contest. Pitching seven scoreless innings, he did not allow the Twins’ batters to execute their game plan. Allowing just two hits and striking out four, Arrieta earned his first win of the season in a 97 pitch outing. Both hits off the starter came in his fourth inning.
"My mindset was to just really set the tone for our team in front of a great crowd," Arrieta said. "There were a lot of excited fans for a new season, so it was important to come out and set the tone the way we did. As a whole, we take it personal that most people write us off from the get-go. We made a statement today: We've got a lot to play for this year."
Nick Markakis hit a crucial home run and he drove in three runs as the Baltimore Orioles took a substantial lead. The Orioles have lost 14 straight seasons and they are considered one of the weakest teams in American League East Division. However, they way they conducted themselves on Friday night can be a sign things are about to change.
