Baltimore Orioles crush New York Yankees 5-2 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles came back strongly as they outclassed New York Yankees 5-2 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Tuesday, May 15 in the second game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Buck Showalter and company looked to attack their opponents right from the start of the contest. Adam Jones made the most of available opportunities to give Baltimore a 1-0 lead in the second inning. J.J. Hardy, once again, played a key role in deciding
the outcome of the game. The striker grounded into double play to double Orioles’ lead to 2-0 lead in the second.
He had two more hits in the fifth and sixth inning to help the Orioles take complete control of the situation.
For the Yankees, Curtis Granderson homered to left in the seventh to bring his team back into the contest. Baltimore’s starting pitcher Wei Yin Chen outpitched C.C. Sabathia as he pitched seven strong innings. Allowing just two runs and striking out four,
the 26 year produced a masterful performance to beat Yankees’ ace C.C. Sabathia.
"He located really well," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "Command of the fastball was really key tonight. Once he showed them that he could do that on both sides of the plate, the whole world opened up for him."
"The first time, the debut I was so nervous," Chen said through an interpreter. "This time, I was just like I've had this experience already so everything was fine to me."
"I don't know if it was somebody in midnight blue or black and orange there," Showalter said. "I've got an educated guess."
The Orioles will be very pleased with the way they conducted themselves in a game that was played on a pretty competitive note. The Yankees entered the game as the favourites after they upset the Orioles in the opening game 8-5.
With their win on Tuesday evening, the Orioles also improved their record to 23-14 and it will be interesting to see if they can put up a similar show in the next series against Kansas City Royals.
