Baltimore Orioles crushed by Boston Red Sox 0-7 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles were crushed by Boston Red Sox 0-7 at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts on Thursday, June 7 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Red Sox’s starting pitcher Clay Buchholz had one of his career best nights as he led his side to an outstanding victory. The right hander was a given a six run cushion by the offence but he did not need that many. In a display of dominant throwing, the 27
year old starter pitched a four hitter for his third career shutout against Baltimore Orioles, striking out six and walking one on 125 pitches.
Manager Bobby Valentine loved what he saw from Buchholz and it will be interesting to see if he can produce similar performances throughout the season. Adrian Gonzalez, Dustin Pedroia, Daniel Nava and Kevin Youkilis drove in curial runs for Boston.
"He did a good job keeping us off balance and throwing strikes. It seemed like every hitter, he was ahead," Chris Davis said. "We did a good job of working the counts. He was just good. He wasn't giving in. He was putting us away with all three of his pitches."
"We just couldn't string much together with him," Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said in a post game interview. "He commanded all of his pitches. It kind of takes some wind out of your sails there in the first couple of innings when you're out on the field
that long."
Although the Orioles suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Boston Red Sox on Thursday evening, they are still sitting at the top of American League East Division standings with an impressive 32-35 record. Buck Showalter and company had a poor season
last year and credit must be given to them for the way they have bounced back this year.
Not many National baseball writers and analysts expected them to dominate their AL East opponents. However, we are still very early in the season and Baltimore will have to maintain their sensational form to give themselves a chance of making it to the playoffs.
