Baltimore Orioles defeat Boston Red Sox 7-5 in critical outing – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles defeated the Boston Red Sox 7-5 in the vital third outing of the four-game series at Fenway Park in Boston on Tuesday, September 20.
Orioles created trouble for the Red Sox, who are contesting for the playoffs race. The Red Sox are sharing the third spot in the league with the Texas Rangers. Both clubs have 88 wins and are one win behind Detroit Tigers and five of New York Yankees.
The win did not help the Orioles except that they gained positive comments from the game experts. Orioles’ batting shined in only two innings but these proved devastating for the Red Sox.
In the top of the fourth, they scored four runs including a double by Mark Reynolds and an RBI each by Nick Markakis and Vladimir Guerrero. In the top of the eighth, when the club was under a 5-4 deficit, second baseman Robert Andino doubled to deep-right
and earned three RBIs to take the club into a winning position.
Orioles gave the Red Sox their 15th defeat in 20 games to please their manager Buck Showalter.
Orioles' manager Buck Showalter, who was ejected in the fifth inning by base umpire Chris Guccione for arguing a check swing said, "I think the energy, the emotion of the games play well for us, because we have kind of identified our lot for the season.
So you get into this competitive situation, more than anything there is envy and we want to be in their position."
Mark Reynolds was pleased the way that they are going to end the season, as they have won six of their last eight outings.
"Just the situation they are in and our situation, it's a little added bonus," Reynolds said. "There's no extra incentive to go out there and try to spoil their season. We're just trying to play good baseball and win games."
Starter Rick VandenHurk was tagged for seven hits and five runs but Jo-Jo Reyes cleaned all the clots over the Orioles with his three innings. Clay Rapada, Willie Eyre, Pedro Strop and Jim Johnson each tossed shut-out innings to help the batters for a positive
win.
