Baltimore Orioles defeat New York Yankees 3-2 in 10th innings at Orioles Park – MLB news
Baltimore Orioles arrested a six game skid on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 as they defeated the New York Yankees 3-2 in the 10th innings at the Orioles Park in front of a 29,000 plus home crowd.
The Baltimore ballclub has had a struggle off late as they have been unable to transform close games into wins, an ability that took them into the post-season after a decade and a half last year.
The game had many positives for the birds. They were able to break their season high losing streak. They were also able to win an extra innings game with a single run margin. O’s will also be pleased that their starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez is back from
the disabled list and was able to throw down seven innings successfully on the return.
The game stayed in a sedate manner for the most part and neither of the two teams was able to get more than a single run in any of the innings. The Yankees took the lead in the first innings which was neutralised in the third with the help of Chris Dickerson’s
home-run to centre field.
The Yankees were able to get back on the leader board once again in the fourth with a ground out RBI. Chris Dickerson was once again able to help his team get back on even terms as he smashed another home-run in the bottom of the fifth. This was the first
multi homerun game for Chris in his Major League career.
The bats remained silence for the rest of the four innings and the game went into an extra innings. Tommy Hunter did a good job and did not allow any runs in the two regular innings that he pitched in.
In the top of the tenth, Buck Showalter called upon the trusted yet out of form closer Jim Johnson who repaid the faith shown in him by retiring all three Yankee batters without any damage.
Nate McLouth, the left fielder who loves steal bases, smashed his second lead off home-run of MLB career to get the O’s home. Jim Johnson was credited with the win.
It is great that the Orioles have been able to win a game after a few days and should get back on track for the coming games.
