Baltimore Orioles down Boston Red Sox 3-2 in a tight series finale at Fenway Park - MLB News
The Baltimore Orioles have had a good time when it comes to visiting Boston in recent times. The latest win has given them their fifth consecutive series win against the Boston ballclub in their own den. The margin of victory in the series was 2-1.
The victory gives the birds a positive 5-4 winning record. They will certainly like to build upon that as they now move to play against New York Yankees at the Yankee Stadium.
The game was certainly a close affair the same flare with the bat that was previously seen from both the teams was missing. The birds got underway with the help of the sixth home-run of the season by Chris Davis on a 3-0 count pitch. It was his 13th
home-run in the last 16 games and he streak is helping the Orioles big time.
The only runs for the Red Sox came in the bottom of the third.
Orioles’ relievers took the mound with nearly four innings remaining and had to make a valiant effort to protect the slim single run lead that they had got in the top of the seventh. Jim Johnson made his fourth save of the season.
The star reliever knew that the Boston Red Sox will give a tough time and it was always going to be a close affair. Johnson is glad to take some momentum into the next series.
"It's going to be a dogfight all the way through. And we know that, and they know that. Anytime you can win a series and move on to the next city, you're happy." Johnson said.
He did feel that the Red Sox this year are a changed team and are likely going to challenge others.
"They're a good team and they're totally different than what they were last year," Johnson Said.
Buck Showalter was pleased with the outcome. He was happy that the team is not relying on one or two players and someone was stepping up to the plate every time there was a need.
"I don't think our guys feel like one guy's got to do it, and that's a good mentality to have," Showalter said. "Someone else is going to pick them up. I don't think anyone feels like they're carrying the load."
The Orioles did not lose a single game last year once they ended the seventh inning with a lead. They also had a 29-9 winning record in the single run games. They will be hoping that they can improve upon the 1-3 record in single run games this year and
continue the trend to win once entering the eighth with a lead.
So far the performance has been great from the Baltimore Orioles. The fans will certainly be hoping that they can continue the good work against the Yankees and throughout the season.
