Baltimore Orioles down Minnesota Twins 6-0 to win away series - MLB Update
The Baltimore Orioles won their ninth series in the current season as they beat the Minnesota Twins 6-0 and took the series 2-1 on Sunday, May 12, 2013. The game ended with a potential injury scare to opening pitcher Wei-Yin Chen who had to leave after five
innings.
Wei-Yin has an even 3-3 win-loss record so far in the season. The pitcher himself is confident that it is not very serious and is probably a cramp as he talked with the help of a translator. The assessment will take place tomorrow.
"It's not that serious to me. I think it's just a cramp and we'll see what's going to happen tomorrow. We will re-evaluate tomorrow, and hopefully it's just a cramp." Chen said.
It was a day when the O’s showed some consistency and won the game with a fair margin despite being unable to get more than two runs in any of the innings. They had a total of 11 hits and went long three times in the game.
The scoring started in the first with Chris Davis going long for a two-run shot. Chris Snyder scored an RBI single in the second and a homer by Adam Jones took the lead 3-0 in the middle of the third.
Chris Davis added another RBI when he was ground out in the fifth. The last of the runs by the birds was scored in the sixth innings with the help of Steve Pearce’s home-run.
Scott Diamond was on the receiving end as he gave away six runs in a little over five innings. It was his third loss for the season.
Buck Showalter, the manager of the Orioles, was pleased with the victory that came against a tough opposition. He felt that the team had done well in challenging conditions. The Twins had earlier beat the O’s in their own backyard earlier in the season.
"We've just got so many bridges to cross, but you look at the schedule when the season starts, you look at this stretch and you know it's going to be a challenge, especially the teams we're playing," Showalter said. "Minnesota beat us two out of three at
our place. They're lethal offensively.”
Manny Machado continued his amazing run as he had another multi-hit game. He now has 12 multi-hit games in the last 19.
"I'm not even paying much attention to it. I don't look up there and see what I'm hitting," said Machado.
It was indeed another impressive show by the Orioles who are looking strong this season on the same lines as the previous one. The wins on the road are even better as they will add to the confidence of the ballclub.
