Baltimore Orioles down Tampa Bay Rays 10-7 in a high scoring ballgame - MLB News
Baltimore Orioles finally beat Tampa Bay Rays 10-7 in a game which was characterised by high scoring by the two teams on Sunday, June 9, 2013 at the Tropicana Field to avoid a clean sweep at the hands of the
hosts.
The game saw starting pitcher, Chris Tillman, record his sixth win of the season and Jim Johnson made yet another save. The closer seems to have gotten over the earlier horrid show that he put by blowing several
saves. However, it was the batters for the birds who finally came to the party and arrested a five game skid against Tampa Bay Rays this season.
No time was wasted by the O’s as they got on the scoreboard in the first innings with two runs. The Orioles added three more in the second innings to make their lead 5-0 in the game. The Rays were able to get
one run in the bottom of the second to get their own scoring going.
Three more runs in the third gave the Orioles an upper hand that they maintained throughout the ballgame and were never really threatened by the Rays from this point onwards. Orioles were able to get their ninth
run with Adam Jones going deep in a solo effort.
The Rays rallied back but some good pitching and strong fielding by the birds never really allowed them back into the game. There was always a play when they started to look threatening.
Manager for the Orioles Buck Showalter was pleased by the result but he himself was not certain what caused the offensive shift by a team that had scored merely one run in the last two games against the same
opposition.
The manager knows that the players were frustrated and were looking to get back amongst the runs. Achieving consistency is never an easy task in this game certainly.
"When you figure it out, let me know,” Showalter said."Guys are grinding it. They're frustrated. Everybody looks for that perfection of consistency, which is hard to find. We're facing really good pitching. We
faced a really good pitcher again today, and we were able to string some things together."
Buck also knew that his boys could not take it easy after a strong 9-2 lead at the conclusion of four innings. He knows that you have to take it all the way before being sure that you have won, particularly in
the highly competitive American League East.
"The American League East is tough. You've got to play nine innings, which our guys did. They kept adding on, trying to,” Showalter said.
It’s a good win for the Orioles who will now be taking on the Los Angeles Angels. Currently the Orioles are third in a very closely fought AL East and will look to improve upon that.
