Baltimore Orioles down Washington Nationals 9-6 in home-run fest at Camden Yards - MLB News
Baltimore Orioles took down Washington Nationals 9-6 in a game that was characterised by some big hitting from both sides at the Orioles Park at Camden Yards on Wednesday, May 29, 2013. Nationals’ Ryan Zimmerman and Orioles’ Chris
Davis had a particularly good night.
Ryan Zimmerman went long on three occasions against O’s opening pitcher, Chris Tillman, while Chris Davis homered twice and went 4-for-4.
The game saw some fluctuating fortunes before a six-run bottom of the seventh settled the affairs in the favour of the home team. Zimmerman put the Nats ahead with a home-run in the first. Ryan Flaherty scored an RBI double to
equal the equation in the second.
Back-to-back home-runs in the fourth by Roger Bernadina and Ryan Zimmerman once again put the Nationals in the driver’s seat. Chris Davis replied from the birds with a solo long ball in the bottom of the innings.
Three more runs were added by the Nationals in the fifth including a two-run homer by Ryan Zimmerman. With a 6-2 lead, the Washington ballclub was looking all set to take the ballgame away from the O’s.
Nick Markakis went deep in a solo effort in the bottom of the sixth before the Baltimore ballclub’s bats really exploded. Steve Pearce set the tone in the seventh with a two-run home-run. Manny Machado scored an RBI double which
was followed by Nick Markakis for an RBI single.
Chris Davis then hit a two-run home-run to take the birds to a lead of three runs. The lead remained intact for the rest of the game.
Chris Davis is quite pleased with his performance and believed that the reason behind the success he is getting is consistent efforts. He is just looking to do his job right and that is paying off.
“It's fun,” Davis said. “You're always working on things, whether you're locked in or struggling. Just the consistent approach every day has helped me out, the routine. I heard for such a long time that routine was such a big part
of this game. I've really found one that I like, and I've continued to do that every day.”
Buck Showalter, the Orioles’ manager is also pleased with the efforts by the first baseman. He feels that the consistency David maintains in general is also helping him in baseball.
“He's just been consistent,” Showalter said. “And when people are consistent in the way they live their life, they have a chance to be consistent in baseball and sports, too. He's in a good place in a lot of ways.”
It was an excellent comeback from behind victory for the Orioles. They now have won six out of the last nine games and appear to be back in top gear once again.
