Baltimore Orioles edge Boston Red Sox 2-0 at the Orioles Park – MLB news
Baltimore Orioles edge the Boston Red Sox 2-0 in a game that was played in a sedate manner and none of the offenses were able to break away on Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Orioles Park.
The game saw Chris Tillman shutout the Red Sox over a period of six innings. He now has an impressive 7-2 winning record thus far. He has also not surrendered a single home-run thus far against the Boston ballclub in seven games.
The pitcher was pleased with his performance and did well even though he had a bit of a struggle with his command early on in the ballgame. He was also pleased with how catcher Matt Wieters handled the game as well.
“I thought it was good. Early, I struggled with command a little bit with all my pitches,” Tillman said. “I was able to make an adjustment midgame. Kind of went with [catcher Matt] Wieters from there and started attacking the zone a little.”
Some good pitching by the bullpen ensured no damage was done and Jim Johnson picked his 24th save of the season.
The scoring by the birds came courtesy of a long ball by Major League home-run leader Chris Davis in the second innings and an RBI single by Adam Jones in the third.
Chris Davis at this point in time feels it is a little early to look into the rankings though it is not bad to be at the top. The first baseman also knows the importance of wins against the teams in the division is crucial.
“I think it's still a little early [to look at the standings],” Davis said, “but we know we're close. And any time a division rival comes in, you want to try to take as many games as you possibly can. I think we're pleased with the way things have gone so
far, and hopefully, we can continue it.”
There are still two games in the series and winning them will take the Orioles to the top of the American League East. Certainly the possibility of that happening is quite strong in the current situation.
