Baltimore Orioles edge Texas Rangers 6-5 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles edged Texas Rangers 6-5 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday, May 10 in third game of the their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Orioles will be very pleased with the way they fought back in the crucial game on Thursday evening. Texas hammered them in the opening two games to establish complete control over the situation and Buck Showalter and company needed a special effort to turn things around in the third game.
Adopting a very aggressive strategy, the Orioles made the most of available opportunities early on to take 3-0 lead in the first inning. Ryan Flaherty homered to the right to score the first run for the Orioles. J. J. Hardy and Nick Markakis also joined the party, both hitting towering home runs to devastate their opponents.
The Rangers bounced back strongly in the fourth inning with Michael Young scoring on Yorvit Torrealba single to centre. Adam Jones and Matt Wieters displayed some high quality hitting skills to put Baltimore 6-1 ahead in the seventh and the lead proved sufficient for the Orioles to earn a much needed victory.
For the Rangers, Adrian Beltre and David Murphy put up a brilliant show in closing stages of the game to reduce the deficit to 6-5 but the Orioles held their nerves to clinch a narrow victory. Josh Hamilton, who hit four home runs in the last game, went 1 for 4 and he will be slightly disappointed with his effort.
"I've known Colby for a long time. I knew it was only a matter of time before he settled in," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "We were fortunate to take advantage of it early. We didn't mount much after that. ... I thought the tack-on runs after the home runs were even bigger."
Orioles’ starting pitcher Wei Yin Chen had a great time on the mound as he gave up just two runs and six hits in just over seven innings. Striking out five and walking one, the Taiwan National showed just what he is capable of.
