Baltimore Orioles edge Toronto Blue Jays 2-1 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles edged Toronto Blue Jays 2-1 at the Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Tuesday, April 24 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Baltimore made the most of available opportunities in a game that was played on an extremely competitive note. With their win on Tuesday evening, the Orioles improved their win-loss record to 10-7.
Buck Showalter and his men scored their first run in the first inning. Eric Thames hit a home run to the right field in the third to help Toronto level the score.
Matt Wieters one again showed just why he is an asset for the Orioles as he scored to give his team a decisive 2-1 advantage in the fourth. Both teams struggled to score any more runs and the Orioles went on to take 1-0 lead in the series.
"I was at the top of the wall and I reached up to catch it and it was off my glove and into the seats. It's as simple as that," Thames said. "It all happened so fast. In my glove. I heard the crowd."
"Off the bat I had a feeling it was going to be one that I had a chance to rob, and it was," Thames further added. "Didn't bring it down. It's nice to get a little help. I don't think anyone will remember that in a few years. Any help I can get, I'll take."
The Blue Jays will be very disappointed with the outcome of the game. Dominating Kansas City Royals in almost all departments of the game, the Blue Jays earned a deserving sweep in their previous series and they were hoping to continue their unbeaten run
to gain more confidence.
However, despite putting up a strong fight, Toronto failed to net the fish. With a superb 10-7 win-loss record, John Farrell and company are still one of the most successful teams this season and it will be interesting to see if they can turn things around
in the second game to spice up the contest.
