Baltimore Orioles edge past Boston Red Sox 4-2 – MLB Recap
Baltimore Orioles edge past the Boston Red Sox 4-2 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Friday, September 21 at Fenway Park in Boston.
"When you talk about the history of the Orioles, you've got everybody's attention. That's pretty long and deep, Jimmy's got other goals in mind, Every time they scored we had an answer, it seemed like, and Matt was in the middle of that," manager Buck Showalter said as he talked to the media in detail.
Later, Boston manager Bobby Valentine commented on the game as he seemed disappointed on his team’s defeat against the Orioles and said, “They've got some home run hitters in the middle of the lineup and their bullpen's been 'shut down.”
Miguel Gonzalez pitched beautifully for the Orioles and received two runs and seven hits. He pitched 6.1 solid innings and struck-out three on his persistent 3.52 ERA.
Not only Gonzalez, but the rest of the Orioles' pitchers also played well and earned a huge victory for their team.
Darren O'Day did not receive any run or hit on his 1.2 innings spell. He maintained his cool on the mound while his 2.37 ERA also shows his class.
Closer Jim Johnson pitched one inning and received only one hit. He was also able to strike-out one potential Red Sox’s batter while maintaining his ERA at 2.69.
"We were even seeing for the first time ... Baltimore fans in Boston, I've never seen that before, so it's pretty cool how things are changing," Johnson said of his performance as well on his team’s overall offensive plays.
Orioles’ hitters also contributed in their team’s win. They all played well and showed their offensive plays during the entire game.
Shortstop J.J. Hardy scored one run and smashed one hit on his five at-bats. He played aggressive and gave his team early momentum on his persistent .393 slugging percentage.
Centre fielder Adam Jones scored two runs and smashed two hits on his three at-bats. He also showed some offensive plays and maintained his slugging percentage at .508 which proved one of the winning factors for the Orioles.
