Baltimore Orioles go on a run fest to down Oakland Athletics 10-2 at O.co Coliseum - MLB News
The bats of the Orioles’ hitters were smashing on a consistent basis as Baltimore defeated the Oakland Athletics 10-2 at O.co Coliseum on Thursday, April 25, 2013. Starting pitcher picked up his third win of the season and now stands at 3-1.
The A’s took the early lead as they scored two in the second innings. The Orioles, however, got back in the game as they scored three runs in the third.
Left fielder Nate McLouth was pleased with the team’s collective efforts and believes that the team is gelling together rather well.
"Things are coming together now throughout the lineup," McLouth said. "We have good balance. I'm swinging at good pitches. That's what I'm most happy about."
His own night was quite productive as he not only hit twice but also stole a couple of bases and drove in two runs as well.
Jason Hammel got out of the second inning without giving away a whole bunch of runs and was able to remain aggressive for the rest of the game. He was also quite happy about the offensive production from the batters which allowed him to push harder at the
opposition.
"I was basically struggling, but getting out of the second inning and limiting the damage was key," Hammel said. "Then the guys scored a lot of runs and I was able to stay aggressive."
He is now a more mature pitcher and has learnt not to get frustrated. He had those issues in the earlier days and had trouble.
"The first few years I'd get so frustrated, I'd try to do too much and would fold," Hammel said.
Orioles were able to score in five innings, four of them with multiple runs. The in-form first baseman Chris Davis went long yet again. He managed to reach the base four out of the five times he came out to bat. Centre fielder Adam Jones hit thrice as well.
The manager for the Orioles, Buck Showalter was quite happy with the performance as well. Bucks feels that it is not easy to get back after being two runs down and it was a good start to what he described as a tough series.
"It's hard to look back and see we were down 2-0," Showalter said. "But we battled back. It's a good start to a tough road trip."
The birds will be relieved to have a victory that was not tense. In the last three games, they have had all single run finishes. That is something that pushes the bullpen to the limit as well.
Currently the Orioles stand at 13-9 winning record. They remain at the second spot of American League East, two games behind the Boston Red Sox. The fans will certainly be hoping for more displays.
