Baltimore Orioles hit seven home runs to humiliate Toronto Blue Jays 12-2 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles tied the club mark with seven home-runs to annihilate the Toronto Blue Jays 12-2 at Orioles Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Wednesday, September 26 in the finale of their four match series.
With their win, the Orioles also split their four game series with the American League East Division rivals. Orioles improved to 89-67 on Wednesday but they still remained two games behind the New York Yankees at the top AL East standings table.
It seems Orioles’ best chance of making it to the playoffs is to grab one of the two American League Wild Card spots. It will be interesting to see if Buck Showalter and his men can win their remaining games to reach the playoffs against all the odds.
Orioles’ offence looked in terrific form as it stacked up a huge total on the board. Nate McLouth continued his amazing form as he homered to centre in the first inning to put his side on the board. Jim Thome, Manny Machado and Chris Davis hit back-to-back home-runs to give Baltimore a handsome 6-1 lead in the fifth inning.
"Home runs are very unique, and when you do what we did tonight, it's something to be proud of. It's something that doesn't happen a whole lot in the game," Thome said.
"Up and down the lineup, everyone swung the bat well. It's been fun," Thome added.
Mark Reynolds kept the pressure on Toronto with a two run home-run to left in the sixth inning. Davis and Machado hit two consecutive home-runs in the seventh and the eighth as the Orioles humiliated their opponents.
"This was a tough series. It was one of those ones that you don't want to see at the end of the season coming in off a long road trip," Davis said.
Starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez claimed his eighth win of the season after he gave up just five hits and two runs in seven sharp innings, laying the foundations of a memorable Orioles’ victory. Relief pitcher Brian Matusz and Tommy Hunter combined to pitch two shut-out innings to help Orioles win the game by a margin of ten runs.
