Baltimore Orioles humiliate Toronto Blue Jays 12-4 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles had a wonderful start on Tuesday, July 26 to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 12-4 at Rogers Centre.
With such a large margin, the win enabled the Orioles to regain their confidence and play with more zest in the remaining two games.
Jake Arrieta tossed five strong innings and allowed four runs, backed by the constant support rendered by the Orioles’ offence that scored no less than 12 runs to rout the Blue Jays.
Derrek Lee provided an ideal start to the Orioles as Arrieta pitched his two shut-out innings to give the team a 2-0 lead. J.J. Hardy snapped a homer in the third and Lee followed with another single to centre to take the lead to 4-0.
Morrow was finding it woefully difficult to contain the Orioles’ offence. "I just wasn't very good tonight," Morrow said. "I was pulling a lot of fastballs to the first-base side of the box. And then if I wasn't throwing my slider in the dirt, then I was
spinning it at the top of the hitting zone."
While the Orioles’ offence seemed in perfect shape and the Blue Jays straining, Toronto’s hitter Adam Lind changed everything for a while. He hit a three-run homer against the seemingly strong Arrieta in the third inning to bring the score to 4-3.
"That was something really special, especially to do that here," right-hander Jake Arrieta said. "Everybody knows we've struggled here at Rogers Centre in the past, we haven't played well in this ballpark."
However, Nolan Reimold’s one-run homer and J. J. Hardy’s two-run homer added a new ingredient into the already wonderful offensive mix put by the Orioles with a 7-3 lead. Aaron Hill came back with a single for the Blue Jays that to slowly brought down the
Orioles’ lead.
Reimold’s single followed by that of Robert Andino’s and subsequent sacrifice fly hit by J. J Hardy took the lead to 10-4 for the Orioles by the end of fifth inning while Arrieta pitched effective innings to maintain an edge.
Lee went for another two-run homer in the eight against Wil Ledezma that gave the Orioles an irreversible 12-4 lead in the game which was to be defended by Jason Berken who had already pitched two shut-out innings.
Coming as a closer, Mark Hendrickson tossed some of the best pitches to wrap up the game in favour of Baltimore by a 12-4 victory to make it a perfect series start for the team.
Having had a better record, the Blue Jays will be looking to stage a come-back in the series.
