Baltimore Orioles humiliated by Chicago White Sox 1-8 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles were annihilated by the Chicago White Sox 1-8 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Wednesday, August 29 in third game of their four match series.
Manager Buck Showalter will be very upset with what he saw from some of the key members of Orioles’ offence on Wednesday.
Orioles had the better of their opponents in the first two games of the series and they had an excellent chance to wrap up an impressive series sweep against the American League Central Division leaders Chicago White Sox.
However, the batting line-up was unable to live up to the expectations and the White Sox secured a comprehensive win to keep the series alive.
Despite taking the loss, Showalter and company are just four games behind the AL East leaders New York Yankees. It will be interesting to see if they can deliver the goods on a regular basis at this critical time of the season to maximise their chances of
reaching the playoffs.
Starting pitcher Joe Saunders took the loss after he gave up ten hits and seven runs in just over five innings, allowing Chicago to establish complete control over the contest.
"It just didn't go my way there in the first, and that was pretty much the game as it ends up," said Saunders. "I was making good pitches. I kind of looked back at (catcher Matt Wieters) and said, 'What's going on here?'"
Relief pitcher Kevin Gregg also paid the price for his errors on the mound, giving up two hits and a run in just 1.1 innings of relief. White Sox’s starter Dylan Axelrod grabbed his second win, allowing just three hits and a run in seven plus solid innings.
"I know they were just kidding me," Axelrod said in a post game interview, "but it was a good win against a good team."
"We told (Axelrod) after last night's game that he better win, because we kind of needed it," said Gordon Beckham, who drove in three RBIs.
Omar Quintanilla hit a sacrifice fly to centre in the fourth inning to score the only run for Baltimore.
