Baltimore Orioles improving with each passing day – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles annihilated the New York Yankees at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday, September 6 in the opener of their four match series.
Orioles, who have won 22 of their last 31 Major League Baseball games, continued their excellent form against the Yankees to tie for first place on American League East Division standings table. Credit should be given to the Manager Buck Showalter who has
used his pitching and hitting resources to perfection this season.
Orioles hitting five home-runs against one of the best pitching rotations in the American League explains the kind of comfort level they are feeling right now. It will not be wrong to say that they were too hot to handle at their home ballpark.
“When you’re talking about age, age implies veterans,” said GM Brian Cashman, who is still convinced that Yankees are the favourites for the title. “We’ve got a lot of veteran leadership here. These guys have been through a lot over the course of their careers.
A lot of them have tasted a lot of success and certainly at times they’ve had to deal with failure. All that stuff will serve you well when you’re running into struggles.”
It is very clear that the Orioles are not going to back down in the race for the American League East Division title. But skipper Showalter will have his eyes set on something bigger; the World Series title. Orioles, who have not won the World Series finals
in a while, have an excellent chance to give their fans something to cheer about this season. Of course, it will be a test of their nerves, temperament and pride but it seems they have what it takes to go the distance.
“They expect to win,” Yankees’ ace CC Sabathia said. “That’s translating into a lot of confidence. They’re starting to feed off that.”
Baltimore’s offence in particular has a key role to play in upcoming weeks. If the hitters can live up to the expectations against the likes of Texas Rangers, Detroit Tigers and Oakland Athletics, surely Showalter and his men will claim the biggest price.
It will be interesting to see how far Baltimore can carry their winning momentum.
