Baltimore Orioles keep the series alive – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles showed great determination, fighting spirit, composure and pressure handling abilities as they stunned the Texas Rangers 6-5 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday, May 10 in the third game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Orioles will be very pleased with the way they handled the pressure in a tense game to keep the series alive. Baltimore are now 20-11 and they have surprised most of the National baseball writers and analysts with their consistency. With one game still to be played in the series, the Orioles will have another opportunity to up their confidence levels.
Of course, the Orioles have the quality and firepower in their hitting and pitching line ups to beat any MLB team. For Buck Showalter and his men, it will be more about giving results consistently. It will be interesting to see if the Orioles can put another solid show in the finale to level the series and devastate their rivals.
Starting pitcher Wei Yin Chen, once again, used his throwing skills to great effect as he allowed just two runs and six hits in seven plus innings. He struck out five and walked one to put his team in a commanding position.
"Definitely, this is my best outing this year," Chen said using a translator.
"Wei-Yin was a difference-maker today, to get that deep in the game, and against obviously a good lineup," Showalter said. "He was outstanding. He was sharp with his breaking ball, the extra days' rest. It seems like he had a little bit more finish on his fastball. He was a difference-maker for us today and it won't be forgotten."
Baltimore looked to attack right from the start of the game and Ryan Flaherty homered to the right in the first inning to score the first run. Nick Markakis, who has been in terrific form since the start of the season, homered to the right to give the Orioles a crucial 3-0 lead. J.J. Hardy, Adam Jones and Wilson Betemit also played a key role in deciding the outcome of the game as the Orioles hit five home runs in total.
