Baltimore Orioles looking for hitters in the Winter Meetings - MLB News
The Baltimore Orioles are very clear in what they want to achieve from this year’s Winter Meetings to be held in Nashville, Tennessee and that is to land a good hitter.
The executive vice president of baseball operations had no qualms about it and said that before any other agenda; they will look for a hitter as they will be considering all options in their search. "Our agenda at the Winter Meetings is to try to find a
hitter," Duquette said. "We'll keep working on that. It's a possibility that may happen in the trade market."
Currently there is no indication in the part of the Orioles whether they will be looking to pick any players from the Rule 5 draft or not. There are some good names on offer and they can be useful additions to any team. Ryan Flaherty was the first player
to be picked under Dan Duquette by the Orioles from the draft.
The current Baltimore 40-man roster stands at 38 and allows them some flexibility. The Orioles have some options in the pitching unit that can be used for trades and the management is well aware of that.
"We also have more qualified Major League pitchers than we have slots," said Duquette.
Dan believes the team has some prospects in the Minor League that can be playing in the Major League next year and that is a big advantage the team has at the moment over other clubs.
"All those things are good things, right? We have a surplus as perceived by other teams that we can make a trade that could help us in other areas," Dan said.
Dan has previously indicated that he will not mind adding pitchers to the team as well. They have also been in discussion with some pitchers but it is quite obvious that it will not be their top priority in Nashville this week.
It will be interesting to see how the ball club goes about shaping their line-up in the Winter Meetings. The Orioles may be interested in some Rule 5 draftees, free agents and trade. They have some quality pitchers that can be more then useful in engaging
other clubs into trading. That will be a big plus for the O’s to get what they want in terms of a good hitter.
