Baltimore Orioles lose 2-11 to Los Angeles Angels – MLB Update
The Baltimore Orioles’ designated hitter Vladimir Guerrero tripled and homered but was unable to save his club from a humiliating 2-11 defeat in the final outing of the three-game series at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Sunday, September 18.
Guerrero slashed a triple to tie the score at 1-all in the bottom of the first inning and then launched a ballistic 427-feet long one-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning. Although his hitting was a real source of pleasure for the packed stadium,
his batting and the pitching squad did not back him up for a single moment.
Being consistent in inconsistency, Orioles’ starter Alfredo Simon gave away three early homers and then yielded six runs to bear another loss of the season. Angels crushed him in the start of the game and his bullpen became amazed and angry at the way he
tossed his pitches. The performance has caused serious troubles for manager Buck Showalter, who was not in a pleasant mood after the outing.
"We keep looking for guys to step up and put themselves in a position where you feel like you can trust them," Showalter said. "Some starts make you feel better about that than others. I thought, stuff-wise, he was carrying very similar stuff to what he's
had in his good outings."
Simon has lost his third straight decision and fifth back-to-back loss. He charged six runs on eight hits over his five innings to lose his ninth overall outing of the season. He used 96 pitches to complete his five innings.
Simon gave away three consecutive home-runs, first and the third to Erick Aybar while second to Vernon Wells. Catcher Craig Tatum observed Simon’s pitching as a tough one, but his day was not good.
"He threw fine," said Orioles’ catcher Craig Tatum. "The pitch that Aybar hit out, the first one, was a little bit up, but the split he hit out, that was a good pitch. He just took a good swing. Other than that, his sinker was still good."
Orioles’ are looking to make an energetic end to the season. They are now going to face the tough Boston Red Sox for a four-game match-up. Their win will not make any additional points to their Wild-card race, but it will be a positive message for the Orioles’
dejected fans.
