Baltimore Orioles lose to Cleveland Indians 2-7 at Oriole Park – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles lost to Cleveland Indians 2-7 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Thursday, June 28 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
It was Orioles’ third consecutive loss and it will be interesting to see if the hitters can turn things around in the next game to help Baltimore restore some of their lost pride.
Johnny Damon looked extremely comfortable on the mound as he gave the Indians an excellent start with a three run home run to right-centre in the second inning. Right-fielder Shin Soo Choo also made the most of available opportunities as he added a solo
home-run in the fifth inning to extend Indians’ lead 4-0.
Choo is having a decent time on the plate this season. With his home-run against the Orioles on Thursday, he improved to .276. Short-stop Asdrubal Cabrera hit his tenth home-run of the season in the seventh inning to help the Indians establish complete control
over the contest. J.J. Hardy drove in a two run shot in the fifth inning for Baltimore but the effort never proved to be enough.
"Johnny Damon's three-run homer ... pretty much set the tone for us and gave us some relief from the get-go," Indians’ Manager Manny Acta said in a post game interview. "It was an early lead, and that Cabrera homer was huge, something that we really needed.
Choo, obviously. It feels good that we were able to have good at-bats against a left-handed pitcher today."
"Every day, you got a different feel for your pitches. Today, I just don't feel it," Chen said through an interpreter.
Orioles’ starting pitcher Wei Yin Chen struggled to control his fastballs and curveballs as he gave up six runs and six hits with three walks in just over six innings. He will be looking to work hard on some of the weaker links of his game to win his next
decision.
The Indians will be very happy with their performance as they managed to dominate the Orioles and take a good win in the opening game of the series. Baltimore will be looking to improve their performance and build up some much needed confidence in their
game.
