Baltimore Orioles lost to Los Angeles Angels 3-7 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Tuesday, June 26 in the opening game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
The Angels will be very pleased with the way they dominated their opponents in series opener and they will be looking to produce similar performance in the next game to complete an important series sweep.
Torii Hunter had a great time on the plate as he singled to centre in the third inning to break the deadlock and put the Angels on the board.
Albert Pujols put up a masterful performance, hitting his 12th home-run of the season in the fifth inning and the Angels extended their lead to 3-0.
Steve Pearce brought the Orioles back into the contest with a towering home-run to left-centre in the fifth inning but the Angels continued to play aggressively.
Centre fielder Peter Bourjos homered to left in the sixth. Mark Trumbo and John Hester hit home-runs in the seventh and the eighth as the Angels belted a season high four home-runs.
"It's just a testament to what a career he's had," teammate Mark Trumbo said of Pujols. "He sure didn't wait very long. Best hitter in this era."
"You have to take the positive out of it. We keep getting ourselves into position, we just need to hit," center fielder Adam Jones said in an interview. "We've left some guys on base, we had the opportunity to score more runs, and we didn't. But we had the
opportunity. We have to bear down, get in scoring position and get that hit. It's not easy."
Wilson Betemit homered for the Orioles in the eighth to add extra spice to proceedings but Los Angeles held on to their lead to complete a deserving victory.
Angels’ starting pitcher C.J. Wilson had another excellent outing as he gave up just one run in seven innings. His counterpart Brian Matusz took his ninth loss of the season, allowing five runs and career high 13 hits in just over five innings. The Angels
will be looking to stay competitive and carry their winning momentum forward.
