Baltimore Orioles lose to Minnesota Twins 4-6 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles continued to slip down the American League East Division standings as they fell to Minnesota Twins 4-6 at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota during the second game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular
season.
Orioles, who received a 19-7 hammering in series opener, put up a solid fight on Tuesday evening but despite their best effort, they were unable to end up on the winning side.
Nick Markakis provided the Orioles with a decent start as he scored on a wild pitch in the first inning but the Twins responded immediately with Jamey Carroll and Ryan Doumit combining to level the score 1-1.
Adam Jones put up another strong show as he homered to right in the fifth inning. Markakis and Jim Thome scored to put the Orioles 4-1 ahead.
With momentum on their side, the Orioles had an excellent chance to build an impassable lead but instead they allowed the Twins an entry back into the contest. Credit should also be given to the Twins for showing great determination and fighting spirit.
Right now, they are at the bottom of the American League Central Division standings and it will be interesting to see if they can end the season on a high to give their fans something to cheer about.
Ryan Doumit, Brian Dozier, Ben Revere and Joe Mauer all displayed some top quality hitting skills in the fifth and the seventh as the Twins came back from behind to take a decisive 6-4 lead.
The offence has remained one of the problems for the injury plagued Orioles over the last few weeks. Without some of their top hitters, Baltimore will have to rely on their pitching rotation to deliver the goods.
"I think the bullpen, everybody is going pretty well," said Twins’ relief pitcher Tyler Robertson, who struck-out Thome. "It's a confident group. We all pull for each other."
However, starting pitcher Zach Britton looked completely out of sorts as he gave up six hits and four runs in just four innings. Relief pitcher Luis Ayala took the loss for allowing two runs in just over two innings.
