Baltimore Orioles lose to New York Yankees 2-3 in thriller – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles were beaten by the New York Yankees 2-3 at Yankee Stadium in New York, NY on Wednesday, October 10 in Game 3 of their five match American League Divisional Series.
Starting pitcher Miguel Gonzalez, who struck-out 17 Yankees’ batters in just two starts during the regular season, produced a solid performance as he allowed five hits and one run in seven sharp innings to put Orioles in a strong position.
Orioles led the score 2-1 going into the ninth inning and it seemed they will hold on to their slim lead to complete a deserving victory. However, Jim Johnson was unable to perform under pressure as he gave up a solo home-run against Raul Ibanez that forced
the game into the extra inning.
Ibanez did not hold himself back as he smacked another home-run in the 12th, leading the Yankees to a much needed victory. For Baltimore, Ryan Flaherty homered to right in the third inning and Manny Machado belted a home-run to left centre in
the fifth.
"He said great job. A-Rod is a great teammate and great team player," Ibanez said. "He's the first one on the top step congratulating you. It's about winning. It's about the Yankees and continuing."
"It was a great experience. We do it as a team. We stay after it," Ibanez said. "I'm blessed to come up and have the opportunity like that. We do it together. It's about a team and about winning."
"You're going to be asked a lot of questions if it doesn't work," Girardi said of Ibanez inclusion to the team.
Orioles’ Manager Buck Showalter will be extremely disappointed with the outcome of the contest. Baltimore showed great determination and mental toughness to edge past New York in Game 2.
With momentum on their side, Showalter was expecting his men to continue the good work in Game 3 to take a vital 2-1 series lead but Yankees had other ideas.
It will be interesting to see if the Oriole can find winning ways against their American League East Division opponents in Game 4 to take the series into the decider.
