Baltimore Orioles lose to New York Yankees 5-8 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles crashed to a 5-8 loss against New York Yankees at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday, September 7 in second game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Manager Buck Showalter will be extremely disappointed with the result of the game. After getting the better of their American League East Division rivals in the series opener, Showalter and company were looking to continue their good work in Game 2 to safeguard
their number one status.
Credit should be given to the Yankees who managed to rise from the ashes to post an emphatic win on Friday evening. With their win, Joe Girardi and his men also moved back to first place on AL East Division standings.
"It was huge," said Alex Rodriguez in an interview. "Every game from now on is huge, especially when you get to September.”
Orioles, on the other hand, were unable to control the flow of runs at crucial stages of the game and paid the ultimate price. Showalter will be expecting his team to bounce back strongly in Game 3 to stay in the AL East pennant race.
Starting pitcher Wei Yin Chen looked completely out of sorts as he gave up six hits and seven runs in just over four innings to take his ninth loss of the season.
"There was a lot of energy there again. The fans were great," Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter said. "Just a disappointment we couldn't return the favor."
"Actually I feel real good today," Chen said through an interpreter. "I wasn't able to attack the strike zone like in the late innings, and that was the problem. This is the Yankees, and I made a couple of mistakes and they made me pay the price."
Relief pitcher Brian Matusz also had a testing time on the mound as he allowed one run in 0.2 innings. Adam Jones, Robert Andino and Manny Machado all hit home-runs for the Orioles but the Yankees were too hot to handle on Friday as they held on to their
lead comfortably to level the series.
