Baltimore Orioles lose to Pittsburgh Pirates 5-11 – MLB News
Baltimore Orioles lost to Pittsburgh Pirates 5-11 at the Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Florida in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session. The Orioles scored their most runs in their previous spring game
and they were hoping to dominate their opponents on Wednesday, March 14. However, they paid heavy price for their unforced errors during the contest as Pittsburgh Pirates’ batters posted a huge total on the board.
The Pirates, on the other hand, will be very pleased with what they have managed to achieve so far this spring season. Clint Hurdle and his men executed their game plan to perfection last season to turn things around as the Pirates went over .500 win-loss
record for the first time in over a decade in majors.
However, inconsistency has always been the problem for the Pirates over the years. They will turn up as the invincible on a day and fail miserably on the other. It will be interesting to see if they can win back their fans’ hearts with strong performances
in 2012.
"I was just happy to get out there, get some at-bats and start this thing off right. And get it going in the right direction," Markakis said. "No pain. The biggest thing was I wasn't too worried about baseball activity, I just wanted to see how my body would
react to my natural reactions. It was fine, I didn't get to run. But we still got time for that."
"I was real happy with a lot today, especially the way I was able to throw out of the windup. Everything in the windup was incredible,” said Arrieta.
Nick Markakis made a successful comeback from his offseason surgery. Although he had no hits in three hits at bat, he will be very happy with his fitness and health. Orioles’ starter Jake Arrieta had a forgettable outing as he gave up four runs in his second
inning to help the Pirates take control of the game. Arrieta looked in decent touch on his first spring appearance on March 8 when he gave up no hits. He will be looking to bounce back strongly in the upcoming games.
