Baltimore Orioles lose to Toronto Blue Jays 5-9 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles lost to the Toronto Blue Jays 5-9 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Monday, September 24 in second game of their four match series.
Orioles’ starting pitcher Wei Yin Chen made a large number of unforced errors on the mound as he gave up five runs and nine hits in five innings to take his 10th
loss of the season.
Chen is an extremely talented pitcher. He has the ability to bounce back strongly. Surely, he will be looking to turn things around on his next start.
Relief pitcher Jake Arrieta was also unable to control the flow of runs as he conceded four runs and three hits while striking-out four batters.
"Very hard to sweep a doubleheader in the major leagues," Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said. "It wasn't from a lack of effort. That's why when you get a rainout, you try to play because you know the challenge ahead of you somewhere down the line. The
Blue Jays have a lot of pride."
"You never want to play games like this late in the season," Baltimore right fielder Chris Davis said. "But at the same time, if you can win both of them, you help yourself out. Obviously we weren't able to do that."
Chen’s counterpart from the Blue Jays’ Ricky Romero produced a match winning performance as he allowed just eight hits and four runs in five innings to claim his ninth win of the season.
Edwin Encarnacion provided Blue Jays with an excellent start as he homered to right in the first inning to put his side on the board. J.P. Arencibia also had a great time on the plate as he hit a sacrifice fly to right in the second to stretch Blue Jays’
lead to 3-0.
Moises Sierra and Arencibia hit back-to-back home-runs to help Blue Jays establish complete control over the contest. For Baltimore, Robert Andino singled to left in the second inning to score the first run.
Nate McLouth smacked a two run home-run to left and Mary Reynolds earned an RBI groundout in the bottom of the ninth but the Blue Jays held on to complete a deserving victory.
