Baltimore Orioles lose to Toronto Blue Jays 9-2 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles lost to Toronto Blue Jays 9-2 at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario on Sunday, April 15 in third and final game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
Orioles’ batting line up had a horrible outing as they managed to post just two runs on the board. Brian Matusz also had an extremely frustrating night as he lost his debut start of the season.
The starter has struggled to find control over his pitches in his last few starts and it will be interesting to see if he can turn the tables on his next opportunity.
Overall, Matusz allowed five runs and seven hits in just over five innings. He was asked to come back to the bullpen after he allowed easy scoring chances to the Blue Jays in the sixth inning.
"I was really erratic out of the windup today, never found a rhythm," he said. "At times when I got ahead in the count, I didn't make a quality pitch to finish it."
In a post game interview, Skipper Showalter stated that he was frustrated to see Matusz having no command over his fastballs. The finale overall, proved to be a forgettable one for the Orioles as they allowed more runs in one inning than they had in any
game so far this year.
"We had the momentum going and they jumped right back on top with a big inning," Matusz said. "Things like that can't happen. We're too good of a team to let that happen."
Although the Orioles were beaten by the Blue Jays, they will be very pleased with the way they have bounced back from their 3-0 hammering by New York Yankees.
"We needed this sweep," Baltimore outfielder Adam Jones said. "We wanted this sweep. It's still awesome winning a series here since we hadn't won one since '08. But you get two, you want the three."
With their 3-0 win over Minnesota Twins, the Orioles had made a dream start to their 2012 season’s campaign. However, the fact the Orioles have not been able to put up big number consistently will be a bit disappointing for the Manager Buck Showalter.
