Baltimore Orioles lose to Washington Nationals 3-9 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles lost to Washington Nationals 3-9 at Nationals Past in Washington, D.C on Sunday, May 20 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
For the third straight time in the series, Baltimore scored first. Nick Markakis had another decent outing as he singled to right in the first to give his team a crucial 1-0 lead. Robert Andino also made a useful contribution.
His ground out to second in the second inning doubled the Orioles’ advantage to 2-0. Xavier Avery also made the most of available opportunities early on and he singled to left to dent Nationals’ confidence levels.
Washington staged an emphatic come back in the third with Bryce Harper’s triple to deep right. Ian Desmond played a key role in deciding the outcome of the game as he drove in crucial runs to help the Nationals come back from behind and take a handsome 6-3 lead. Stephen Strasburg also made a substantial impact on the game with his solo home run in the fourth.
"I don't care who it was, if I find out they have tightness, they're out," Manager Davey Johnson said. "I talked to him later in the game. He said it relaxed a bit and was a lot better. I'm not as concerned when it's in the biceps."
"I'm not big for going out there and showboating," Strasburg said. "It was great, but I know my place. I'm not a real hitter out there so I'm not going to go out there and act like I do it all the time. I have to swing a lot harder to hit it out."
The Orioles will be disappointed to lose the game after they had put up a strong show in the first two games of the series. Without a shadow of a doubt, Buck Showalter and company have surprised most of us this season.
Not many had expected them to be 27-15 before the All Star break and it should not be surprise to anyone if they bounce back strongly in their next series against the struggling Boston Red Sox.
