Baltimore Orioles miss historic win after fielding error against Oakland Athletics in 10th inning

The Baltimore Orioles concluded the first series of their road trip losing game four 8-9 to Oakland Athletics on Sunday, April 28, 2013 and winning the series by an impressive 3-1 margin. However, a fielding error in the bottom of the 10th not
only cost the Orioles the game but also robbed them from a bit of history.
This is was the first time in 26 years when the O’s came in touching distance from beating the A’s at their home in four consecutive games. There is no reason to feel bad though, they did get some new milestones.
Their three consecutive wins against the Athletics were the first of a kind in 16 years. Even their first two wins happened after 2005.
Chris Davis, the Orioles’ smashing first baseman was quite content though knowing that the performance was a good one and was against a top notch side. He saw it as a good series win and was also happy with the way the Orioles batted.
"It's so hard to sweep four games," Davis said. "Three out of four is good against anybody, especially to start a road trip. I'm happy with the three wins and I'm happy with the way we swung the bats."
Orioles had a strong grip in the game during the sixth inning after they were ahead by five runs. However, a four run bottom of the sixth brought the home team back into contention.
The batters had quite a good day for the O’s as Machado hit four, so did Nate McLouth. Adam Jones got two away and Matt Wieters also got a hit. Chris Davis got his ninth home-run as his dream run continues. In all, the Orioles got 15 hits in the match.
Buck Showalter was quite pleased with the overall outcome of the series.
"I was proud they went for it both ways," Showalter said. "You have to take a pop at it or it sets them up for too many things. I feel good about the way we played."
Miguel Gonzalez, the starting pitcher for the Orioles had a fine day until the sixth inning arrived. His number were spoiled as he gave away four runs in the inning with just a single out and was retired.
The pitcher himself realises that he was trying too hard and could have taken it a little easy.
"I tried to do too much," Gonzalez said. "A couple of pitches I forced instead of just letting go."
Baltimore Orioles have won the last eight of their eleven games. Overall, it was a good series for the Orioles where they made a strong start to their road trip. If they can continue their current form and show the same poise and promise, surely more success
will be awaiting them in the near future.
