Baltimore Orioles off to a perfect start as Brian Roberts and Jake Arrieta pummel Detroit Tigers
The Baltimore Orioles are off to an amazing start of the 2011 Major League Baseball season. With four victories on the card in four games, the club is looking at one of the best outings in a season since 1997. Their latest triumph came against the Detroit
Tigers who were out to get to a flying start, themselves. Unfortunately the American League Central club was going to be on the losing end of the affair, as Jake Arrieta pitched impressively and Brian Roberts smashed a three run homer in the game.
The Orioles were impressed by a vigilant and robust, Arrieta who managed to forego just one run in his six innings of ball throwing. The pitcher did concede six hits, but his display was powerful enough to suggest he will be useful against mammoths like
the San Francisco Giants in the American League.
The critics may claim that the team had the advantage of playing in their home ground of Camden Yards, but that assessment was not entirely accurate. Manager Buck Showalter is bringing history to the game and so is Roberts who is a two time All-Star player
for the American League.
While the acquisition of Derrek Lee, Mark Reynolds, Vladimir Guerrero and James Jerry Hardy has not been able to improve the hitting on the new sunny side, Roberts has pounced as a useful contingent in the club.
"Robby seems to have been able to dial up what was needed, whether it be a stolen base, a walk, whatever," manager Buck Showalter said. "He's got a feel for being able to challenge the moment. He's really had some big hits for us early in the year."
Showalter talked about Roberts, who connected his swing on Rick Porcello’s pitch in the fifth inning, "He's got just a feel for being able to challenge the moment."
The second baseman was instrumental in his role to beat the Tigers to a plum. His 400 feet homer in the fifth got Felix Pie and Hardy to the dugout with three runs in the sack. With a score line of 5-1, the Orioles look stronger than ever.
