Baltimore Orioles’ pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada out with elbow injury – MLB News
The Baltimore Orioles’ newly acquired starting pitcher Tsuyoshi Wada is injured with an inflammation in his left elbow and now sitting in doubt to play in next season.
He was present with the team in Arizona for Spring Training, but missed a full training session on late Sunday evening after soreness in his left elbow which alarmed the rest of the Orioles roster and management.
Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter commented on Wada with slight optimism and said, “From talking to him, it’s something that he has about every February, Right now we feel like it should solve itself. We’ll see. ... Listening to him talk, it’s something he’s dealt with in the past and it goes away.”
Wada was immediately brought into the doctors’ room for an X-ray that later revealed some significant factors of structural damages in his elbow. After receiving cortisone injection however, some fluid was removed from his elbow in order to reduce the swelling that later also helped Wada temporarily from the pain.
“It’s not pain, its discomfort,” Wada said Sunday later through interpreter Danny MacLeith. “In Japan, I would usually just wait and the swelling, or whatever it was, would go away and I then would keep throwing. I was a bit worried about it, so I decided it was a good idea to go ahead and get it taken care of.”
Wada, a Japanese international player, brought into the Orioles’ roster this Major League offseason. He signed a two year deal worth $8.15 million with the Orioles. Before coming into the biggest baseball in the world, Wada has played seven years in the Fukuoka Daiei Hawks/Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks.
His late injury is not a good sign for the Orioles who are showing some great energy ahead of the next season in this year’s Spring Training camps. This late blow of Wada’s injury now can reduce the chances of Orioles to put up some good results next season.
On the other hand, inside the Orioles’ management, the sense of alarm due to Wada’s injury is also prevailing and if his entire season does go by with him resting, the ultimate results will affect the clubs standing in the League.
