Baltimore Orioles’ prospect Dylan Bundy out for a year with Tommy John Surgery – MLB news
Baltimore Orioles’ prospect Dylan Bundy has suffered a setback as he will require a Tommy John Surgery on his right elbow. This means that he will be out of the game for approximately 12 months, the general time needed to recover from the surgery.
Buck Showalter, the manager for the Orioles is a bit disappointed by the diagnoses as he knows that the pitcher would have had some chances to be a part of the team towards the end of the season. Dylan pitched in two games last year, throwing a little over one innings but more importantly getting a feel of the big leagues. The surgery is quite common in baseball and the manager knows about it.
“He had some roads to cross, and this might help him some in certain situations. Hopefully, next year this time we'll be putting a date on when he is going to pitch again in a game. And we all know, obviously there are a lot of exceptions, but this is a procedure that has become, unfortunately, pretty commonplace,” Showalter said.
Buck also knows that now that the situation demands the surgery, nothing can be done. It is important that the focus now shifts on his recovery from the surgery.
“I think the key where that's concerned is now we've got that behind us. We know what it is. It's nothing he is doing wrong or something he's got to do differently. It's just something that happens. Pretty normal. And we're going to fix it,” Showalter said.
Dylan was drafted by the Orioles in the fourth round of the MLB's Amateur draft in 2011 from the Owasso High School. He made his professional debut the following year for the Class-A Delmarva Shorebirds. Bundy then played for the Class-A advanced Fredrick Keys and was a part of the Double-A Bowie Bay Sox before the injury. He has not played a single game in 2013.
It is certainly a setback for the youngster who has sown a lot of promise. However, it should be one of temporary nature as he should be playing ball again in around one year's time.
