Baltimore Orioles rally past Kansas City Royals 5-3 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles continued their excellent form as they edged Kansas City Royals 5-3 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Thursday, May 17 in the second game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Buck Showalter and company have looked in outstanding touch since the start of the season and they continued their domination on Thursday’s evening to secure another important series win. Kansas City who have lost majority of their games this season had an absolutely dream start to the contest as Humberto Quintero drove in a two run double in the third to give them a crucial 2-0 lead.
Johnny Giavotella also made the most of available opportunities, singling to right to help Quintero score another run for the Royals. With momentum on their side, it seemed Ned Yost and his men will pull off a stunning win against one of the most successful teams in American League this season.
Adam Jones brought Baltimore back in to the game with a towering home run to centre in the fourth inning as Nick Markakis reduce Royals’ lead to 2-3. Chris Davis took the attack to the Royals in the seventh with a single to deep centre and Wilson Betemit levelled score at 3-3.
"He's hot right now. He's really hot," said J.J. Hardy of Jones who has 13 home runs this season. "He's been swinging the bat impressively."
"We're just chipping away," Jones said. "You're down 3-0, it's easy to give away at-bats. We're not giving anything away right now."
"We got deep in the game with our starter, which we needed after last night," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "That's a very aggressive team and if you make a mistake, they're going to make you pay for it. But we were also able to use that to our advantage."
J.J. Hardy, once again, showed just why he is a plus point for the Orioles as he drove in the tie breaking run in the seventh to stun the Royals. He will be looking to continue his excellent form in Baltimore’s next series against Washington Nationals.http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/_/id/28643/luke-hochevar
