Baltimore Orioles rout Detroit Tigers 8-6 at Oriole Park – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles routed the Detroit Tigers 8-6 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday, July 14 in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Taylor Teagarden produced a match winning performance in his very first game with the Orioles as he hit a two run home-run in the 13th inning and the Orioles secured their tenth straight extra inning win. It was great to see two teams fighting
hard to overpower each other but the Orioles held their nerves to eventually come out on top.
"Oh boy, what a game," said Kevin Gregg who got the last out in the extra inning to get the win. "It was terrific effort, and just an unbelievable game. That was major league baseball at its best. Two teams going at each other. Both teams coming back. Nobody
giving up on either side. It doesn't get any better than that."
"I've been thinking about this day for a while," Matt Wieters said. "It has been somewhat of a grind for me this year, so just being in this clubhouse and among these guys, it means the world right now."
Winner of 2012 Home Run Derby, Prince Fielder provided the Tigers with an excellent start as he doubled to deep-left in the first inning and Austin Jackson scored the opening run. Jim Thome and Chris Davis drove in crucial runs and Robert Andino homered
to left in the second inning to put Orioles in a commanding 4-1 lead.
Jim Leyland and his men were also determined to put up a solid show. Jhonny Peralta singled to centre and Brenan Boesch doubled to right in the bottom of the ninth to add spice to the proceedings.
Rookie Quintin Berry had another decent outing with the bat as he earned an RBI single to left to level score. Both team scored one run in the eleventh inning as the game entered a very exciting phase.
Berry singled to centre to put the Tigers 6-5 ahead in the 13th but J.J. Hardy and Teagarden hit back-to-back home-runs to lead Baltimore to a stunning victory.
