Baltimore Orioles rout Kansas City Royals, 9-2 – MLB Update
The batters put fluent runs on the score-board to give the Baltimore Orioles a convincing 9-2 victory against the Kansas City Royals at Oriole Park, Baltimore on May 25.
The pitchers raised the momentum of their teams in the first three innings as the batters were unable to score even a single run. The Orioles’ starter, Jake Arrieta outclassed the batters of the Royals by pitching six economical innings with an ERA of 4.57.
He gave away just two runs on five hits including two earned runs.
Arrieta had seven strike-outs and permitted three walks on 106 pitches. The Orioles’ Manager Buck Showalter was satisfied with his performance and said, “He's fortunate to get through six innings. He worked himself into some trouble. He's 6-2 and he's only
had a couple bad outings where he didn't give us a good chance to win.”
During fourth inning, the Orioles opened their scoring account with a blast and posted eight runs to get a big lead, 8-0. Nick Markakis, Matt Wieters, Luke Scott, J.J. Hardy, Mark Reynolds, Felix Pie each contributed one run while Adam Jones scored two runs
to complete a eight-run campaign.
Scott expressed his excitement as, “It's kind of like sharks on a feeding frenzy. There was a lot of excitement. A lot of positive energy, everyone pulling for each other.”
On the other side, the Royals were able to score just two runs in a game. They posted their runs in the fifth inning to cut-off their deficit 8-2, when Miguel Cabrera hit a one-run homer (391 feet) towards right-field and Chris Getz scored one run. The batters
failed to score a single run in the sixth and seventh inning as the pitchers threw the ball in perfect areas.
The Orioles got a 9-2 lead during the eighth inning when Reynolds struck a solo homer (366 feet) to left-field. Billy Butler was unable to contribute a run for his team but went 2-for-3. He was frustrated with the loss and said, “You give up eight runs in
one inning. We got a little too far behind.”
The Royals’ starter, Luke Hochevar was too expensive as he permitted eight runs on eight hits including seven earned runs in seven inning pitches. He had just one strike-out and allowed three walks on 105 pitches.
