Baltimore Orioles’ second baseman Brian Roberts will need surgery for his right hip labral tear
The Baltimore Orioles’ second baseman Brian Roberts’ MRI reports are suggesting that the 34-year-old will possibly need surgery for his right hip labral tear.
This is certainly a very bad sign for the Orioles as they had a good run in the competition so far but without Roberts they will feel some difficulty going into the next phase of the regular season. His potential recovery time of six to eight weeks could damage the Orioles probable chances of getting into the next round of play.
Though Roberts’ particular injury needs surgery but still the Orioles’ team management has stated in the media that they well get a second opinion before opting for a potential procedure.
“I traded texts with [Roberts] back and forth, obviously a little depressed about the physical issue, I feel sorry for Brian, he worked so hard to get back to this point, to have something else crop up, it’s frustrating for him.” Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter said.
Orioles’ second baseman had already missed two games with sore groin symptoms but later his pain grew further and the management decided to set up an MRI test for him.
Roberts is a good player and was doing very well in the current Major League season.
Now the Orioles are in trouble not only with Roberts’ injury but with his possible replacement.
Already the Orioles have optioned starter Jake Arrieta to Triple-A Norfolk to get some rhythm back. Arrieta was not performing well and that is the main reason he will now play in the Minors.
Manager Buck Showalter commented on the situation and said, "He was going to stay out here, and I have a conversation that really disrupts his whole life, But I also have to do what's best for Jake and the Orioles. I think he's scheduled to be the last starter after the break [for Norfolk] just to give him the benefit of a couple work days.”
During Jake Arrieta’s stay in the Minor League, outfielder Steve Tolleson will be activated but still this not a guarantee that he will play well and can lead the Orioles to a potential post-season spot.
