Baltimore Orioles still considering options on starting pitchers- MLB Update
The Baltimore Orioles like a number of other teams are looking to add more arms to their opening rotation. A number of names have been rumoured to be on the O’s wish list.
Dan Duquette, the executive vice president of baseball operations for the Orioles, believes that more deals can be on the way in general during now and the holiday season as a number of players are still available in the market.
"I don't know. I think there will be more deals (in baseball) because there are still a lot of players on the market. I think there will be more between now and Christmas Eve, in general," he said.
Names such as Rick Porcello and Joe Saunders have been echoing in the baseball quarters as player the Orioles will like to sign whereas Jim Bowden and Buster Olney have suggested that veteran pitcher Kyle Lohse will be an ideal fit for the Orioles.
Kyle Lohse has been playing in the Majors for the last 11 years and has a 118-109 winning record with a 4.45 ERA. He played his last five seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals as a starting pitcher. 2012 was without a doubt the best season for Kyle as he
posted 16-3 winning record with a 2.86 ERA in 33 games, all played as starting pitcher.
The 34-year-old right-handed pitcher has already declined a qualifying offer from the Cardinals that was worth $13.3 million. Should the birds add him to their roster, they will lose their first round pick in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.
Joe Saunders played for the Orioles towards the end of the season and posted a 3-3 record in seven starts. He has said to receive an offer from the Minnesota Twins and from other teams. Dan Duquette did not make the current status of their dialogue with
the left-handed pitcher.
He was reluctant to speak about the matter as he was not sure if the deal will go through or not.
"I don't know how to characterize these things," Duquette said. "It's a process. Sometimes, it comes together, sometimes it doesn't. I'm reluctant to talk about these things while we're in the process. There's not a lot I can tell you."
Rick Porcello is a starting pitcher with four seasons in the Majors with the Detroit Tigers. He has a 48-42 record with a 4.55 career ERA. The soon-to-turn 23-year-old was third in the race of American League Rookie of the Year in 2009.
Rick has won double digit games in each of his four Major League seasons and certainly is in good form. Some goods results in 2013 can also be expected and he can prove to be a good for the Baltimore ball club.
It will be interesting to see how the final look of the Orioles will be at the start of the 2013 season. The birds have remained rather quite during this off-season. Whether they will keep it that way or surprise everyone with a flurry of moves is yet to
be seen.
