Baltimore Orioles stun New York Yankees with 12-5 win in series-opener – MLB Update
The Baltimore Orioles proved a nightmare team for the American League’s leading club New York Yankees, as they humiliated the Yankees 12-5 in the first outing of the four-game series at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Friday, August 26 to get a 1-0 lead.
"I don't know, winning, losing, with some of the things going on," manager Buck Showalter said. "But I know Mike would have certainly liked it. I can tell you that."
Orioles destroyed Allan James Burnett setting his membership with the Yankees in danger. Mark Reynolds, J.J. Hardy, Matt Angle and Nolan Reimold along with Robert Andino combined to write the destructive second inning. Reynolds led the game off with his
dazzling 391-feet lone one-run homer. It provided confidence to the other batters as Reimold touched a fast line drive to get an RBI single. Angel and Andino both followed with their RBIs singles to elevate the score to 4-0. Then Hardy entered added fuel with
his 411 long two-run homer to finalise the second at 6-0.
The Yankees still carried with the wounded Burnett, who allowed two more runs, one each in the fourth and fifth inning. Joe Girardi then replaced him after the fifth. Burnett allowed nine runs on nine hits and walked two batters over 116 pitches long spell
to catch his 11th loss of the season.
However, Girardi, said. "I'm frustrated. Part of my job is to remember it is a person out there struggling. It is not just an employee of the New York Yankees. It hurts me to see someone struggling. We've got to try and fix it."
The Orioles did not stop after Burnett handed the ball to strong relief pitcher Luis Ayala. Matt Wieters launched a beautiful three-run homer to take the game to 12-1 in the sixth inning.
While the batting line-up was destroying the morale of the Yankees, starter Tommy Hunter worked brilliantly to add his contribution. He held the Yankees scoreless in his first four innings. However, he allowed three homers to receive four runs on five this
of the seven innings. These hits did not prove worrying for him and he won his third game of the season.
Willie Eyre allowed a run in the eighth and Jim Johnson worked a perfect ninth to obtain his club their 52nd win of the season.
Yankees’ Jorge Posada, Nick Swisher and Alex Rodriguez each hammered a home-run. It was the first homer for the Rodriguez after coming back from disabled list. On the other hand, Robinson Cano singled in the top of the seventh to stretch his hitting streak
to 17 games.
