Baltimore Orioles take down Detroit Tigers 7-5 in 9th innings at Camden Yards – MLB News
Baltimore Orioles are on a roll as the birds took down Detroit Tigers 7-5 after a four-run bottom of the ninth at the Camden Yards on Friday, May 31, 2013 in front of a packed crowd of over 46000.
The Tigers had dominated the game from the start and were 5-3 up when O’s batted for the last time in the game. Nick Markakis homered to get the proceedings underway for the birds in the ninth.
With singles by Adam Jones and Chris Davis, the team looked good before Matt Wieters and J.J. Hardy were both out. With two bases loaded and two out, Chris Dickerson connected and went deep. The three-run home-run
allowed the Orioles an unlikely come from behind win in a game which went all the way to the wire. It was Chris’s fourth home-run for the season.
Centre fielder Adam Jones was pleased by the performance by Dickerson who seems to be coming to party at the right time for his ballclub. Jones felt that he got the right pitch and did not waste any time in going
long.
“He's been having some good at-bats,” Jones said. “He's been around the game for some years, so the experience is there. Big spot for him. He got a good pitch to hit, and he crushed that ball.”
Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter was pleased by the will to perform by team members. He said he feels a lot better after looking at their commitment and it had made the success feel a lot sweeter.
“You see how hard these guys work on the days they're not playing to give themselves a chance to have success,” Orioles manager. “That's why it means so much more to me personally when you see them get rewarded for that.”
The race for the top spot has intensified with three teams now a game and a half away from each other in the American League East.
Wins such as this will not only boost their morale but will certainly help the Orioles in getting on the top of the table. They just need to make sure that they keep the intensity for the rest of the season.
