Baltimore Orioles take down Los Angeles Angels 4-3 in rain-marred game – MLB news
Baltimore Orioles took the Los Angles Angels of Anaheim down 4-3 in a game that was marred by rain for more than two hours on Monday, June 10, 2013 at the Camden Yards.
The star of the night for the birds was centre fielder Adam Jones who get a total of three RBI’s for the home team including s two-run home-run in the fourth innings to get the Orioles in front.
Adam was himself pleased with the win and said that rain can be annoying but it does rain every once in a while.
“It's just rain,” Jones said. “Just annoying because it was coming down at a good pace, but hey, we finished the game and got the 'W.' That's pretty much all I care about.”
Buck Showalter felt that there was a need to stop the play and everyone was concerned about the situation. He was pleased by the fact that the pitching mound was in good shape and did not get too much effect from the rain.
“Sure, everybody is,” Showalter said. “And you know who's concerned about it the most is the umpiring crew. It got to the point where it wasn't playable, and we stopped it. The mound was in pretty good shape. That was a good thing.”
Once the game resumed in the bottom of the sixth, the birds were ahead by a margin of 4-2. The Halos were able to pull another one back but failed to score the tying run.
Orioles had scored two crucial runs before the downpour which allowed them to win the game eventually.
Jim Johnson got his 22nd save of the season, making him the third most successful closer this season. The win was recorded by starting pitcher Freddy Garcia who was retired after the rain break.
It is a good start to the series for the O’s who returned home after a tough series against the Tampa Bay Rays. It will be crucial that they continue the good work for the remaining games in the current home stand to make sure that they are not too far from the top position in the American League East.
