Baltimore Orioles thrashed Detroit Tiger 13-3 in a game dominated by O’s batters, particularly Chris Davis on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at the Comerica Park in presence of over 38000 fans. The Orioles took their
16th series of the season.
Chris Davis led the batters who all at least one hit each in a game where the birds did not waste scoring opportunities. Davis has a five RBI ballgame with two two-run home-runs and a ground-rule RBI Double.
The first baseman was the designated hitter during the game.
Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter was very pleased by the performance and was especially full of praise for Chris Davis. He felt that Chris was good at leaving a bad game behind and not get caught up.
"I think we found ourselves a DH finally," Showalter said. "But he's been solid, he's just been very consistent in his approach and his at-bats. He's got a routine that he's really confident in, and he doesn't
let one game that everything doesn't fall in place snowball."
The scoring started in the fourth innings as the O’s were able to add six runs on the scoreboard. Chris Davis went long for a two-run ball to start proceedings. Taylor Teagarden then hit a three-run home-run.
It was his first home-run in the season where he was batting 1-for-23 previously. Manny Machado also got an RBI single.
The Tigers scored one in the bottom of the fourth, courtesy to an RBI double by Omar Infante. The lead was cut into half in the sixth innings when Matt Tuiasosopo scored a two-run RBI double.
Three more runs were scored by the Orioles in the seventh to stamp their authority further and prevent the Tigers from making an unexpected comeback in the game. Adam Jones got a two-run RBI double in the top
of the ninth before Chris Davis hit his second home-run of the night to make it 13-3. The score line remained unchanged for the rest of the game.
Chris Davis said after the game that everything was falling in place and the team was playing very well as a whole.
"We are doing a lot of things right," Davis said. "We are throwing the ball really well, getting some timely hits and scoring some runs. And obviously the defense has been huge as well. I think as a whole, we
are playing really well right now."
Pitching unit did well too, as they only allowed three runs on 11 hits. Chris Tillman recorded his eighth win of the season despite of pitching a little over five innings. It was his sixth win in seven games
away from the Orioles’ Park.
This was a fantastic win for the Baltimore Orioles against a high quality side that is not easy to beat, especially at home. They will now be moving to Toronto to play a series against the division rivals Toronto
Blue Jays.
