Baltimore Orioles thrash Oakland Athletics 10-2 – MLB News

Baltimore Orioles continued their impressive form as they outclassed the Oakland Athletics 10-2 at O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California on Thursday April 25 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball
regular season.
Orioles were the surprise package last season when they made it to the post season with nobody expecting them to do so. Tables have been turned in the American League East Division now and Orioles are no more considered the underdogs.
Orioles’ performance against the inform Athletics on Thursday evening shows the kind of stuff they are capable of. It will be interesting to see if the Orioles can continue the good work in the upcoming games to snatch the first position on the American League
East Division before the All Start Break.
A’s on the other hand will be extremely frustrated with the outcome of the clash. Despite having the home conditions working in their favour, Oakland failed to find winning ways. It will be exciting to see if the A’s can regroup and fight
back to keep the series alive.
"I'm swinging at good pitches, that's what I'm most happy about," McLouth said. "I'm working the count and swinging at the pitches I want instead of having to swing at what a pitcher wants."
"[Hammel] made some big pitches with his curveball," Baltimore manager Buck Showalter said. "At this stage in his career, when he gets mad or frustrated, he's able to channel it in the right direction."
"It just seems like at times [Parker] gets out of sync," A's manager Bob Melvin said.
Orioles’ starting pitcher Jason Hammel played a key role in deciding the outcome of the clash as he allowed just three hits and two runs in six sharp innings. An outstanding performance in front of a packed stadium helped Hammel grabbed
his third win of the season. Relief pitchers Troy Patton and T J McFarland also made valuable contributions to help Baltimore hold on to their lead. Nate McLouth, Nick Markakis, Adam Jones and Chris Davis drove in majority of the runs for Baltimore.
