Baltimore Orioles thrash Pittsburgh Pirates 12-6 – MLB Update
Baltimore Orioles continued their impressive winning streak as they beat Pittsburgh Pirates 12-6 at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Buck Showalter and company will be very pleased with the result of their three game series against the Pirates. Completing their series sweep against Pittsburgh on Thursday evening, the Orioles have now improved their record to 37-26 and it will be interesting to see if they can replace American League East Division leaders New York Yankees before the All Star Break.
Matt Wieters had another successful outing as he singled to left centre in the first inning to put the Orioles 1-0 ahead. Mary Reynolds doubled to deep right and Chris Davis scored to double Orioles’ advantage to 2-0. Steve Pearce also had an RBI double to right centre to cap a four run first inning for Baltimore.
Orioles’ catcher Wieters continued to play aggressively as he added three more runs to the total in the third and the fourth inning, giving his side an impassable 7-0 lead. First baseman Pearce had one of his career best outings as he drove in five crucial runs for his team that included a three run home run in the fourth inning.
"It is nice playing against the Pirates," Pearce said. "It just feels good having a great game and helping contribute to this win."
"The sky's not going to be falling now that we got swept here in Baltimore," manager Clint Hurdle said. "We are looking forward to getting out of here, I can tell you that. We got wiped out here. We got outplayed for three days."
"Taking advantage of the opportunity, providing some versatility, putting some good at-bats together in a very short look so far," manager Buck Showalter said in a post game interview with a reporter.
Although the Pirates fought hard right till the end, they were unable to come up with the winning formula. Starting pitcher Tommy Hunter secured third win of the season, giving up five runs and seven hits in six innings.
