Baltimore Orioles tie with Tampa Bay Rays 7-7 – MLB Spring Training
Baltimore Orioles tied with Tampa Bay Rays 7-7 at the Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota Florida on Tuesday, March 13 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Sessions.
The Orioles displayed some high quality hitting skills as they scored their most runs in a game this spring. Showing great determination, fighting spirit and mental toughness, Buck Showalter and his men handled the pressure absolutely superbly to stay in
the game right till the end.
"We had some good at-bats. It's the time of the spring where you start getting some more sense of urgency as you move forward," manager Buck Showalter said.
Tampa Bay Rays, on the other hand, will be very pleased to see the strength and depth in their pitching attack. In fact, they are one of the few teams in American League, who have a surplus of starting pitchers. Manager Joe Maddon looked very content with
the outcome of the game. He used David Price and Matt Moore in the same game on Tuesday to achieve satisfactory results.
Price did not disappoint his manager as he worked into the fourth innings. Moore also pitched with great control and accuracy as he allowed no hits in just over one inning to help the Rays tie 7-7 with the Orioles.
"Matt Moore was exceptional today. He looked pretty comfortable out there," Maddon said. "He was throwing really well there too, but not as sharp as I saw today.”
"Now, the butterflies are out of the way," Moore said. "It was a warm day, so it didn't take much for me to get my body going."
"He's got the equalizer on the changeup," Price said. "Most hitters don't see that very good."
For Orioles, Jai Miller played a key role as he homered off Price to help his team score four runs in one inning. Moore, who made his MLB debut in September last year, struck out three batters and walked one. He will be hoping to continue his impressive
form throughout Spring Training to become a permanent member of Tampa Bay Rays’ pitching rotation.
